I'm now coming up on my first anniversary of driving. I have it down. I still enjoy it at time, but it is a job and sometimes I dread it. When it's slow, its a drag. When it's busy, it is good.

I meet a lot of people and some of them are really interesting, while some just wish weren't in your car. But every now and then someone climbs in my car and says something that shakes me to my very foundation. The funny thing is, they have no idea how much they changed my life. It happened to me just last week. A young girl climbed in my car. When she told me her address I realized I knew her mother and told her so. She went on to tell me how much her mother had changed and how she had become the parent this girl always dreamed of. And in an instant, I saw my own life, as a father, clearer than I had ever been able to before. And I knew in an instant what I had to do, or rather, maintain, to ensure that my kids grow up and lead a happy and functional life. I realized, with my heart, what I need to do to maintain and foster their respect for me. And it was a beautiful moment.

I suspect that sometimes I have a similar effect on my passengers. Every now and then someone will really open up to me, and if I really listen and think about how I respond, sometimes I know that I've changed someone's life, which changes the world.

There is a lot of good in the world if we all stop for a moment and let it shine into our lives. With summer in the air its time to slow down and smell the roses.
